Treating Scoliosis with Pilates
This workshop is open to Pilates instructors, body-workers and anyone wishing to enhance his or her knowledge of the mind
-body connection through the Pilates technique in the treatment of scoliosis. A background in anatomy is helpful, but not required and it is recommended that participants be in a state of reasonable physical fitness in consideration of this weekend workshop, or any other given through Jennifer Kries’s Pilates Method Training program. In this workshop, we will explore the multiplicity of ways to appreciably improve curvature of the spine through a combination of simple, but effective Pilates exercises. Through this comprehensive approach, you will:
- Learn how to diagnose scoliosis
- Familiarize yourself with the complete Pilates syllabus of exercises effective in the treatment and potential reversal of scoliosis
- Understand the psychological component of scoliosis; how to approach your client with tact, professionalism and sensitivity
- Learn strategic hands-on techniques to increase the efficacy of the exercises given to your client
- Come to appreciate the dramatic structural and profound psychological difference Pilates can make in the treatment of varying degrees of scoliosis
Some Pilates training is required if you are a student applying for the workshop. The suggested number of prerequisite hours for this workshop is 40 combined mat-work and equipment sessions.

The Pilates Advanced Series Workshop
Open to Pilates instructors and advanced Pilates students. This workshop can be tailored to suit the needs of your studio and staff and any one or combination of two apparatus can be chosen on a given weekend as the foundation for the workshop. A superlative review of the advanced exercises on the Pilates apparatus: mat, reformer, cadillac, chair and barrel(s). In this comprehensive workshop, sharpen your skills, review and refine your own work as well as your cuing and imagery in teaching the more challenging advanced level Pilates exercises.
Combination Workshops
The Perfect Balance: Pilates and Yang Vinyasa Yoga
This ground-breaking workshop combines the core series from Joseph Pilates’ classical Mat work syllabus with a strong yoga practice to help you experience the “Perfect balance.” Emphasizing movement initiated from the core, you will be able to experience greater stability, strength and power in your practice. You will learn to move through your asanas with greater strength, grace and effortlessness. In this two hour workshop, you will get a taste of how very important it is to develop a strong center in the quest for greater flexibility, overall strength and range of motion. Jennifer will start the workshop with a full 1 hour Pilates Mat workout and then guide the group through a well-rounded yoga practice, highlighting historical and practical features and applications of Pilates.
