Yin yoga is a practice of long-held, deeply relaxing "stretching" poses that open and energize the "meridians," or energy pathways of the body, restoring youthful joint mobility as you quietly activate and gather your chi, your prana---your life force.
Whereas the yoga most people are familiar with appropriates the muscles or yang tissues of the body, yin yoga targets the more interior, supportive structures-the "fasciae," literally down to the bone marrow. Yin is every bit as vital as a heating or "yang vinyasa" yoga practice, where one flows from pose to pose, energetically pushing the envelope, concentrating on building muscular strength and stamina. In today's world, Yin Yoga is the soothing balm, the elixir that is so badly needed to help us find balance in our stress-filled, over-scheduled lives.
Yin is a calming, restorative practice that literally helps you to recharge your batteries. Learn poses like the dragonfly, seal and pigeon, all of which are designed to stretch and revitalize the deeper connective tissue in every part of the body, stimulating your meridians which connect to your vital organs and help to restore balance and harmony in your body and mind. This "needle-less" form of acupuncture will leave you feeling calm and energized at the same time. The asanas combined with deep, focused breathing encourage you to tune in and listen to your body and surrender to your feelings rather than trying to push them down or control them. Poses are held between ten breaths and ten minutes, to liberate the body's chronic holding patterns and relieve pain, helping you to recapture some of the ease and freedom of movement you used to have as a child. One of the most potent ways to cultivate the body's subtle energy, Yin enables you to heal yourself, move negative emotions out, prevent injury and find a deep sense of peace in your body, mind and spirit.

II. How to Stay Calm During These Challenging Times with Yin Yoga: Find Your Inner Power as you Reduce Stress and Rejuvenate!
In the face of these challenging economic times, we need to be as resourceful and capable as possible. How do we do this? How do we find calm in the midst of chaos? Just as we should be using this new economic climate to assess what is important in our lives and streamline, "trim the fat," we need to do the same within or own beings. Instead of dwelling on the negative and what we lack, let us be grateful for what we have and use this time for cleansing and renewal. We need to move out the old to create space for what is new; we need to clear what is keeping us trapped in the same outmoded, habitual patterns and learn a new dance. We need to learn a new way of being that helps us to access our body's natural healing capabilities and power in order to deal with the challenges that face us with greater equanimity.

This can be both remarkably cathartic and very therapeutic physically; while it may sound unappealing or even frightening, having a release of this kind is incredibly beneficial and unburdening and can help to unlock chronic holding patterns or pain in the body, leaving you with a feeling of deep peace and lightness.
When we are more grounded in the body, the mind and the spirit can be set free. How Waking Energy Works: You and Nature-There is No Separation
In this workshop, come to understand that we are microcosmic versions of the planet we inhabit, that there is no separation between us and the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink.
Through an experiential sampling of the Waking Energy components, and a thorough explanation of how Waking Energy works, learn how you can access your body's own energetic resources and harness universal energy to feel closer to yourself and nature.
The meridians, like rivers of energy, ensure proper nurturing of chi or life force throughout your whole being. When you are healthy, the flow of chi proceeds unimpeded, like the water in a free-running river, and energy is well distributed throughout the meridian pathways. When the river, or meridian, is blocked for some reason, the chi is prevented from reaching the specific area it is supposed to nurture. The result is that the cells, tissue or organs in the affected area will suffer. Waking Energy teaches us to tap into the energy that naturally exists in our own bodies and to "harness" the Chi that exists around us, called "universal chi," to literally get the "rivers" flowing again---so that we can strengthen our internal system to fend off the negative, deleterious energies that swirl around us in our environment. The classical Mat work conditioning regime created by Joseph Pilates that builds unmatched core strength and enhances flexibility of body and mind. Learn to workout smarter, rather than harder; sculpt your body with the fewest repetitions and the greatest focus and control. The emphasis on "core muscles" (i.e.. abdominals, back extensors, shoulder stabilizers, and buttocks) can improve posture and reduce back pain. Jennifer will occasionally incorporate the "Pilates Toys"--- Magic Circle, Sculpting Series and PhysioBall in group mat sessions on her retreats for added challenge and variety.

Pilates exercises make people more aware of their bodies. It helps to improve alignment and breathing and increases efficiency of movement. The focus is on the center of the body---the "powerhouse," or the "corset muscles," also known as the stabilizing core muscles of the torso, which support the spine. The beauty of the technique is that you can do it according to your own fitness level and as you gain strength, the challenge increases. Pilates exercises are gentle, progressive, and performed slowly with good postural alignment at all times; challenging enough for the super-fit, yes, but also gentle enough for pregnant women and the elderly.
On a spiritual level, the workout is concerned with the process itself. You learn to focus on the present moment and the movement itself rather than the outcome. This is a workout, a regime similar to yoga that promotes consciousness and facilitates evolution and self-transformation.
The subtle magic of Pilates is that the work grows as you do. You rise to higher and higher levels as your self-awareness and experience deepen. As you gain insight and as your actual physical strength increases, the work refines and redefines itself.
