Yin Yoga: Go Deep, Open & Energize

Replenish, revive, balance and restore.

Get to know your inner emotional landscape with this profound mind-body “un-workout.” Yin yoga is a practice of long-held, deeply relaxing “stretching” poses that open and harmonize the “meridians,” or energy pathways in the body, helping you to quietly collect and gather your “chi,” your life force. Yin yoga is a “cool” calming, restorative practice that literally helps you to recharge your batteries. Liberate the body’s chronic holding patterns, relieve pain, restore youthful joint mobility, and literally lubricate the joints, recapturing the ease and freedom of movement you used to have as a child. I held these wonderful weekend “urban retreats” this past Fall, they were so popular, that I had to do a reprisal this Winter!

Here’s how they work: You can schedule either as an individual, or as a group of two or more, and book a block of hours on one, two, or three days consecutively to cover absolutely any aspect of the Pilates or Waking Energy syllabus you feel you would like to work on- anything from sessions on your own body to deepen your understanding of the work, to Q&A sessions about the whys and wherefores of the work, stand-alone sessions of Yin Yoga or the Qigong Self-massage, Pilates hands-on techniques, to mat work, to the beginner exercises, scoliosis variations, advanced work, absolutely anything your heart desires and your body needs.

The weekends can also include a combination of private sessions for your body, as well as syllabus and teaching work, something I know that many of you have experienced with me already; and remember: it is SO important to give back to yourself when you are giving so much to others.

In the past, many of you have turned these weekends into a kind of “urban spa retreat” with a girlfriend, which I highly recommend having done such things myself.

On each of the designated days and weekends that are currently open, that full Friday, Saturday and Sunday will all be available on a first-come, first-served basis for those of you who would like to schedule.

The hourly rate for these weekends is $125 and last Fall, these sessions went very fast, so I recommend booking yours early.

An Integrated Wellness and Lifestyle Retreat can either be a time of solitude or a community experience. Retreats are often conducted at rural or remote locations, either privately, or at a retreat center. 
 
The term retreat has several related meanings, all of which share the notion of temporarily removing oneself from one’s usual environment in order to become immersed in a particular subject matter. A retreat can be taken for reasons related to spirituality, stress, health, lifestyle, or ecological concerns. Pilates Philosophy and Benefits
 
Pilates exercises make people more aware of their bodies. It helps to improve alignment and breathing and increases efficiency of movement. The focus is on the center of the body—the “powerhouse,” or the “corset muscles,” also known as the stabilizing core muscles of the torso, which support the spine. The beauty of the technique is that you can do it according to your own fitness level and as you gain strength, the challenge increases. Pilates exercises are gentle, progressive, and performed slowly with good postural alignment at all times; challenging enough for the super-fit, yes, but also gentle enough for pregnant women and the elderly. 
 
On a spiritual level, the workout is concerned with the process itself. You learn to focus on the present moment and the movement itself rather than the outcome. This is a workout, a regime similar to yoga that promotes consciousness and facilitates evolution and self-transformation. 
 
The subtle magic of Pilates is that the work grows as you do. You rise to higher and higher levels as your self-awareness and experience deepen. As you gain insight and as your actual physical strength increases, the work refines and redefines itself. Pilates is a unique, refreshing approach that sees our physical activity as a way to restore total oneness with ourselves and create harmony with our body, mind and spirit; under this notion, exercise becomes the means to experiencing a personal potential greater than the physical skills themselves. Every movement emanates from the center, which is also our emotional core, and the exercises truly help to “center” you. Pilates
 
The classical Mat work conditioning regime created by Joseph Pilates that builds unmatched core strength and enhances flexibility of body and mind. Learn to workout smarter, rather than harder; sculpt your body with the fewest repetitions and the greatest focus and control. The emphasis on “core muscles” (i.e.. abdominals, back extensors, shoulder stabilizers, and buttocks) can improve posture and reduce back pain. Other benefits range from increased muscle tone and flexibility, deepening of breathing patterns, enhanced body awareness, and increased efficiency of movement. We occasionally incorporate the “Pilates Toys”— Magic Circle, Sculpting Series and PhysioBall in our group mat for added challenge and variety. 
 
Yoga
 
Heating, stimulating, grounding, flexibility-enhancing vinyasa (flow style, Hatha) yoga incorporating influences from several schools: Ashtanga, Iyengar and Kundalini. Strengthen your entire body, as you expand your lung capacity and deepen your internal awareness. Practice asanas that integrate breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility as you learn to still your mind and create a deep sense of peace and calm.
 
Yin Yoga
 
Open and stimulate your body’s meridian system and increase your range of motion as you calm your mind with this deeply restorative and revitalizing class. Long-held stretching poses encourage your body’s deep connective tissues to literally melt, restoring youthful joint mobility and ease of movement. Liberate chronic holding patterns and restriction in the body and the mind for an unparalleled feeling of internal freedom and peace. Then conclude your practice and go even deeper into your inner world with a calming, centering meditation practice.
 
Waking Energy
 
The all-new age-defying, immune-boosting, revitalizing synthesis that combines Chi-Gong, the 5 Tibetans and Yin Yoga. Learn the seamless flow … Enliven and awaken your chi with soothing self-massage and spine mobilization exercises as you learn to access your own energy resources and harness the energy that surrounds you.
